Canespro® Fungal Nail Treatment Set

Canespro® Fungal Nail Treatment Set from the makers of Canesten® is the shortest treatment towards healthy nails*.

It is a unique over the counter treatment for fungal nail infection and works differently to other currently available fungal nail treatments.

The Canespro® ointment softens the infected part of the nail to help its gentle and painless removal, whilst keeping the healthy part of the nail intact. The infected part of the nail can then gradually be removed with the plastic tool provided in the set. This gentle removal usually takes 2 to 3 weeks and enables you to get to the main root of the infection – as fungal nail infections can occur under the nail plate.

One set is sufficient for one big toenail or 2 small nails.

* Refers to over the counter fungal nail products. After treating with Canespro®, a follow-up treatment with an anti-fungal nail cream is recommended. Speak to your pharmacist for advice.

What is fungal nail?

It’s a fungal infection of the nail, caused by fungi that commonly thrive in warm and moist environments. People who wear trainers for a lengthy periods of time and have hot sweaty feet have an increased chance of getting the infection. Fungal nail infections are seven times more likely to occur on your toenails compared to fingernails, but you can get them on your fingernails too.

Good to know!

Fungal nail may feel uncomfortable but in most cases there's nothing to worry about and it can be treated effectively.

Common symptoms of fungal nail

  • White or yellow streaks on the nail

  • Yellow toenails or discoloured toenails

  • Thickening or distortion of the nail

  • Brittle or crumbly nails – pieces may break off and come away completely

  • Loss of lustre and shine

  • Loosening or lifting up of the nail

  • Debris trapped under the nail

  • An odour coming from the infected nail

How to use?

Step 1

Apply a thin layer of the ointment on the affected nail after soaking your foot in warm water for 10 mins

Step 2

Cover the nail with a plaster and leave it on for 24 hours.

Step 3

After removing the plaster soak your foot in warm water again and use the plastic spatula to gently remove the softened part of the nail. Don't worry, it is a painless procedure. Only the infected part will be removed, the healthy part of your nail will remain intact.

Repeat the process each day for 2-3 weeks until the infected part of the nail is fully removed.

Don’t forget!

After nail removal, continue the follow-up treatment with an anti-fungal nail cream for 4 weeks.

When you have fungal nail

Fungal nail infections can get worse if left untreated. That’s why you shouldn’t ignore it:

Fungal nail infections can occur under the nail plate, on the nail bed so in these cases painting over the nail may not kill the fungus.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I treat a fungal nail infection?

You can treat your fungal nail infection with an oral or topical (where a drug is placed directly on your skin) anti-fungal. Canespro® ointment has to be applied daily on the infected area of the nail, which is then covered by a plaster for 24h. Then, the softened part of the nail can be gently removed with the plastic tool. This gentle removal usually takes 2 to 3 weeks and enables you to get to the main root of the infection (as fungal nail infections can occur under the nail plate, on the nail bed).

How long does the treatment take?

Treating a fungal nail infection can be a lengthy process, and most treatments can take several months to start to show visible changes. Canespro® is the shortest treatment towards healthy nails, with visible results in 2 to 3 weeks. Canespro® enables you to get to the main root of the infection, as fungal nail infections can occur under the nail plate, on the nail bed. After completing the treatment with Canespro®, a topical anti-fungal nail cream should then be applied on the nail bed for 3 to 4 weeks.

Can I get a fungal nail infection on my fingernail?

Yes, you can, though you’re seven times more likely to get an infection on one of your toenails than on one of your fingernails. This is because the environments your feet are in, (socks and shoes, public changing rooms or swimming pool floors) are often warm and moist environments where the fungi that cause fungal nail infections thrive.

    Is it contagious?

Yes, it is contagious and if you don't treat the infection, there's a chance it will spread to other nails, so it is important to start your treatment as early as possible. It is best to avoid changing rooms, swimming pools and nail/beauty salons while you have a fungal nail infection to prevent the infection from spreading.

How can I prevent it in future?

The best way to avoid future fungal nail infections is to take good care of your feet and nails. For example, always dry your feet carefully, and wear flip flops in swimming pools or public changing rooms. Click here for more top tips on prevention.
